The Big Drink Debate

KMFM interview

During March of 2008, Surrey Primary Care Trust (PCT) launched Surrey's Big Drink Debate.

The aim of the Big Drink Debate was to find out more about people's drinking habits to provide input for a Surrey wide alcohol strategy. The Big Drink Debate used a web-based questionnaire, held events and spoke directly to communities.

The Big Drink Debate campaign is supported by Peter Gordon, breakfast host on local station, Eagle Radio.

The Government aims to change national attitudes to alcohol. It launched a new cross-government alcohol strategy in June 2007 and the NHS now have a priority to reduce the rate of hospital admissions for alcohol-related conditions. To help reach younger people, local schools are working to educate children schoolchildren about the risks of alcohol via Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and the Surrey Healthy Schools Programme.
