Alcoholics 'need a range of treatments'
Alcoholics need to be offered more treatment options to help them overcome their addiction, health chiefs have claimed.
Hospitals in Doncaster are to be provided with additional capacity to enable more alcoholics to access care and to ensure that patients do not have to wait as long for alcohol treatment.
A spokesman for Doncaster Primary Care Trust commented: "We recognise that it is not enough to do work around preventing people becoming dependent and those who are in that position need to be offered a range of treatments including both home and hospital detox programmes."
The spokesman told the Doncaster Free Press that demand for hospital beds has historically been "very high" and revealed that around 40 patients will benefit from the increased capacity between now and March 2008.
People are likely to be physically addicted to alcohol if they get sweaty, experience tremors or shakes, feel sick or vomit, or feel panicky or anxious if they go for too long without a drink.
