Article: Research: Most Britons could not have a 'good time' without alcohol
New research published by Linwood Group suggests that the majority of Britons believe that they could not lead an enjoyable life without alcohol.
Researchers discovered that almost 70 per cent of those questioned could not imagine having a good time without the assistance of alcohol, according to the Guardian.
And furthermore, the analysis found that most do not believe that this is a problem.
Sue Allchurch, project director at the group, told the paper that although these people are "not alcohol-dependent in the normal understanding of the word", they remain "mentally dependent on alcohol" due to the normality of alcohol consumption in modern society.
She added: "Everyone who drinks daily is a problem drinker, even if they just have one or two drinks a day, because they are dependent on a mind-altering substance."
Earlier this month the chancellor raised the tax on alcoholic drinks in a bid to curb the rising culture of binge drinking in the UK.
