Article: Boom in Mongolian alcohol recovery groups
The number of alcohol recovery groups in Mongolia is growing, thanks to the efforts of the International Substance Abuse and Alcohol Coalition (Isaac).
A large number of people suffer from alcohol addiction in Mongolia, with UN estimates suggesting that around 13 per cent of the population are alcoholics.
The Christian network has been helping people through support and recovery groups and Treflyn Lloyd-Roberts told Christian Today: "I was amazed to see the difference in the recovery groups on my latest visit to Mongolia.
"When I first visited there were only eight churches involved; now there are 14. This work is becoming more and more a ministry of the local churches rather than an idea from outside."
There are also plans underway for the country's first residential rehabilitation centre, after a member of the Isaac team visited centres in England and a project in India.
It is expected that a similar alcohol treatment centre will open in Mongolia next year.
