Article: Teens targeted over danger drinking
Teenagers in Norwich are to be advised of the dangers of binge drinking in innovative new school lessons, it has been revealed.
According to the Norwich Evening News, teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18 are to be targeted as part of the Norwich Safer Drinking City Programme, especially those who are likely to go out in the evenings and be tempted to drink alcohol.
Lessons are to be provided by the Matthew Programme and are designed to be fun with an interactive approach.
Some of the exercises the youngsters will be required to do include playing Jenga wearing goggles to simulate how a person is affected when drunk.
"All you can really do is give them the information but it can save young people getting into the criminal justice system," Shirley Magilton, consultant for the Norwich Safer Drinking City Programme, told the newspaper.
"Otherwise there is the potential for them to drop into it and become low level offenders."
Youngsters will also be informed on areas including unit measurements of alcohol, weekly recommended limits, what constitutes binge drinking and the risks of alcohol.
