Article: Projecting a safe drinking message
Residents of Weston were treated to special attention from the police over Easter weekend, eager to spread the message of sensible drinking.
Weston's Chief Inspector Nick Walker told the Weston Mercury: "We want people to have a good time without ending up in trouble."
In a bid to curb binge drinking in the North Somerset town, the force targeted pubs and clubs in the area with two large projectors.
As part of the government's 'Know Your Limits' campaign, these screened messages about safe drinking onto the walls, while the police also took advantage of technology and bluetoothed the information to revelers who had their function switched on.
The nighttime economy is responsible for six in ten crimes in Weston, one of four towns to pilot an alcohol awareness activity programme.
Chief Inspector Walker added: "This campaign is not about not drinking at all, but about being aware of the possible consequences of drinking excessively."
A number of schemes are being piloted around the UK to combat the country's binge drinking problem, including the breathalysing of teenagers in North Wales.
