Article: Alcohol treatment waiting times slashed
Health leaders in Bolton have said that reducing alcohol treatment waiting times could lead to a reduction of deaths.
This is Lancashire reports that alcohol is now the biggest cause of early deaths among women in Bolton and causes as many premature deaths in men as heart disease.
A meeting of the Primary Care Trust board heard that a total of 700 people every year use alcohol treatment services in Bolton but many face a wait of up to six months.
However, £120,000 has now been invested in providing extra alcohol treatment provision which should reduce waiting times to just two weeks.
