Rehab News: Crackdown on binge drinking in Fife
A region of Scotland is attempting to battle the high rates of anti-social behaviour due to alcohol abuse by introducing special exams in schools, according to the Courier.
Councillors in Fife are looking at a range of possible new measures to tackle binge drinking amongst youths in the region.
One of the suggested solutions is to introduce alcohol awareness exams in secondary schools.
The area of Levenmouth is just one in the district that is a victim of anti-social behaviour induced by irresponsible drinking among teenagers.
According to the paper, this often seems to be a symptom of boredom amongst the town's younger residents.
One 16-year-old told the paper: "Hanging about the streets is boring, but it's not boring when you're drunk."
A report published recently revealed that more than half of 13-year-olds and 78 per cent of 15-year-olds in Fife admitted to having been drunk at least once.
This has resulted in a number of new initiatives being introduced in the area to entertain young people, including under-18 discos and an inflatable football pitch.
Figures released last month revealed that over 400 under-15s were treated drink-related conditions in hospital between 2006 and 2007.
